Hiking Cheonan

Cheonan has two local mountains that are popular with the Koreans and which you can take local buses to.

Gwandeoksan This is a 3-4 hour hike that is pretty steep and a good adventure in the wintertime when it's slippery and icy. There is a nice temple at the base. Take bus # 610 or 611 from the bus stop near Burger King, downtown at the YaWooRi.

Taejosan/Gakwonsa/Big Buddha Check out this tourist attraction. It's a giant sitting Buddha. There is also a nice temple at the base of the mountain. The hike takes from 1-3 hours depending on how far you go along the ridge. The trail up from the temple leads to a little hermitage complete with the best view of Cheonan. Then onwards to a big cave with bats so bring your headlamp to check it out. You can walk the ridge either way from the top. Going over the ridge to the other side brings you to a little town that is worth checking out. There's some nice spring water there. Take Bus #102 from in front of Dunkin Donuts downtown. If there's 4 of you, it may just be the same price to take a taxi.

The new bus number to Taejosan is #24. Take it to the end of the line, from in front of the Dunkin Donuts downtown and walk up the hill when you get there.
